Specialist Medical Practices

A medical professional's practice can include a variety of roles depending on the size and type of practice. Common professionals who work in these environments include:

  • Doctors/Physicians – These are the primary medical professionals, such as general practitioners, specialists (e.g., cardiologists, dermatologists), surgeons, or paediatricians.

  • Physician Assistants – These healthcare providers work under the supervision of a physician and can diagnose and treat patients, prescribe medication, and assist in surgeries.

With that in mind, specialist medical practitioners would be required to obtain their own Medical Malpractice policy to cover their activities, whilst the Medical Practice policy is designed to cover the following staff in these services…

  • Nurses – May assist with patient care, monitoring, and sometimes perform medical procedures.

  • Medical Assistants – These staff members perform administrative and clinical duties, including preparing patients for examinations, scheduling appointments, and maintaining medical records.

  • Receptionists – They handle patient check-ins, appointment scheduling, managing patient flow, and answering phones.

  • Lab Technicians – In practices where lab tests are done, lab technicians handle blood draws, urine samples, or perform diagnostic tests.

  • Phlebotomists – These are trained professionals who specialize in drawing blood from patients for testing or donation.

  • Office Managers – They oversee the administrative aspects of the practice, including staff management, payroll, and overall operations.

  • Physical Therapists – If the practice involves rehabilitation, Physical Therapists may work with patients on exercises and therapies to improve mobility and recover from injuries.

  • Other Specialists – Depending on the type of practice, other specialists might be involved, such as dietitians, radiologists, and mental health professionals.

These medical professionals and staff work in conjunction to ensure that patients receive safe, consistent care in the medical practice setting.
